Esoteric Yoga
A gentle, non-imposing yoga for people of all ages.
Esoteric Yoga, or inner-most union, is a very practical modality that teaches us the importance of being connected with our body and getting to know and understand the quality of stillness.
Being dis-connected from our body is one of the underlying causes of stress, anxiety, depression, tiredness, fatigue and other acute and chronic health conditions. The concept of ‘being dis-connected’ might seem a little strange or difficult to grasp as we don’t usually consider ourselves ‘not connected’ or not ‘in’ our body. Yet it is very common to go from A to B without any awareness of our body and our movements. When we are thinking about something other than what we are doing and not feeling the movements we are making, we are dis-connected from the awareness our body can give us. Generally we have become used to running on autopilot without questioning the effect this is having on our health and well-being, our awareness, and every part of our life.
What this reveals is the direct relationship between a disconnection from the awareness of our body and the development of health conditions that we experience.
It starts with the little things, like recognising
the quality of our movements. An Esoteric Yoga class is done either laying down or sitting in a chair. It is presented as a sequence of simple, everyday movements that support us to re-establish our connection with our body and the quality of our movements. We learn that we are constantly choosing the quality of our movements and that the way we move, at some point, affects how we are feeling and the awareness our body can give us.

A key part of an Esoteric Yoga class is re-establishing what is known as conscious presence. Conscious presence is simply keeping our mind focused on our body so that we are aware of what we are doing and the quality we are doing it in. This is the opposite of auto-pilot where there is a dis-connection from our body, which means a dis-connection from the quality of stillness and the potential awareness that it brings.
The quality of our movements and conscious presence supports us to be open to live the awareness we receive.
We have the choice to integrate what has been experienced in a session and bring this new awareness into our day to day living. It is through our choices that our connection and quality can be maintained, appreciated and deepened, regardless of what our personal commitments and responsibilities are. Whether we feel anxious, tired, stressed, exhausted, fit, healthy or vital, Esoteric Yoga has something valuable for everyone. It is considered a way of living, or a livingness, rather than a practice and therefore continues well after a session ends.
Esoteric Yoga reminds us that the body is key, as every single one of our choices affects our physical, physiological, mental and energetic state of being, which in turn affects the quality of our thoughts and the awareness we receive. We are always getting the awareness yet we are adept at finding ways to override, distract, numb and essentially avoid what it is showing us – with things like food, drinks, entertainment, busy-ness and so on. As you can see, much is happening when we are laying down or sitting in a chair and focusing on our body and our quality. The moment we stop mentally overriding, distracting, numbing and avoiding what we are feeling in our bodies, and honour these feelings, we start to realise there is so much more to be aware of in the world of energy we live in.

and never is it about being or becoming something we are not
and therefore, It is never what we cannot naturally be.'
